When you work with heavy equipment, you need to worry about winter. Construction doesn't stop just because the weather gets cold. You've got to make sure that your equipment is ready for winter, or the competition will leave you in the cold. Your frac chassis needs to be in tip-top shape all winter long, otherwise it won't be able to haul the equipment you need. After all, you need to ensure that the cold weather doesn't interfere with your operations. Here are four steps you can take to protect your frac chassis this winter:

Wash Your Chassis Every Night

If you're hauling equipment through winter weather, your chassis is going to collect a lot of dirt and grime. Unfortunately, all that buildup can cause problems for your chassis. To make sure you don't end up with complications that will interfere with your work schedule, you'll need to wash the chassis every night. Use a power washer to remove all the dirt and grime before putting your chassis to bed for the night.

Park on the Right Surface

If you're going to be leaving your trucks and equipment on the job site overnight, you've got to ensure that everything is parked on the right surface. Leaving things parked in the mud could result in problems with freezing -- in fact, your trucks and equipment could freeze right to the ground. To avoid that problem, always park on wood planks; that way, freezing won't be an issue.

Choose the Right Air for Your Tires

If you're using a normal oxygen mixture to inflate your tires, you're going to run into problems, especially during the winter. With a normal oxygen mixture, crystals can form in your tires, which can lead to flat tires in the morning. This is particularly true if crystals develop in the stem. If that happens, all the air will leak out overnight. To prevent that problem, switch to nitrogen to inflate your tires. Nitrogen stops the formation of crystals so your tires stay inflated longer.

Conduct Daily Inspections of All Rubber Parts

When you look at your frac chassis, you might not realize how many rubber parts there actually are. Unfortunately, if you're overlooking those rubber parts, you could run into some serious problems during the winter. To make sure your chassis remains operational all winter long, conduct daily inspections of all the rubber components, including hoses and belts. If you see signs of cracking or brittleness in components like your Frac chassis twist locks, be sure to replace those parts as soon as possible.
